HOHCS SASHCC Charity Concert

Embrace the last Journey with Love

Haven of Hope Sister Annie Skau Holistic Care Centre (SASHCC) Charity Concert is going to be held on 10 June 2024 at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.  The concert aims to raise funds to support Relief & Charity Service (RCS) Beds Programme, Sandwich Class Beds (SCB) Programme, service development and the extension project of SASHCC.  This year’s concert, themed ‘Symphony of Sensations: Music Journey through the Senses’, offers participants the opportunity to experience an enchanting evening with utmost sensation of the 5 senses with the magical journey in music, immersing themselves in a journey that intertwines music, environment, and virtual reality. Let’s join hands to “Embrace the last Journey with Love”.

 Haven of Hope Christian Service

In the early 50s, witnessing the desperate plights of the refugees in Tiu Keng Leng, Sister Annie Skau, the founder of Haven of Hope Christian Service (HOHCS) helped untie their knots in lives by means of medical assistance. Not merely did Sister Annie Skau care about their health, she endeavored to meet their psychological, social and spiritual needs. Nowadays HOHCS has developed into a charitable organization offering medical, elderly, rehabilitation and family services, making great efforts to enhance the physical, psychological, social and spiritual well-being of service users, in the hope of sustaining the merits of holistic care inherited from Sister Annie Skau.

Haven of Hope Sister Annie Skau Holistic Care Centre

Since its inception in 2006, the Sister Annie Skau Holistic Care Centre (SASHCC), integral to the Haven of Hope Christian Service (HOHCS), has embodied the spirit of its founder, Sister Annie Skau. Living by the motto “Respecting LifeImpacting Life,” the Centre has prospered on a self-financing basis, without government subsidies. To date, SASHCC has served over 2,700 patients and provided consistent support to their families.

SASHCC is committed to offering a comprehensive range of care that integrates medical, nursing, rehabilitation, and psychosocial-spiritual services. The centre addresses the needs of frail elders, individuals with chronic illnesses, and those in the advanced stages of cancer. Our transdisciplinary team, state-of-the-art facilities, and serene environment are dedicated to working hand in hand with our patients and their loved ones to ‘Embrace the Last Journey with Love.’ We aim to provide comfort, dignity, and peace to those confronting physical illness or nearing the end of life.

 SASHCC core services encompass:

  • Quality Infirmary Care
  • Convalescent Care
  • Geriatric Rehabilitation
  • Palliative Care

In response to Hong Kong’s aging population and increasing demand for quality rehabilitation, long-term, and palliative care, SASHCC is embarking on a service expansion. The Extension Project of the centre will be carried out in four phases. The area of site of overall development is 1.2 hectares in total. In phase 1 development, a Hospice Care Complex including a Hospice Care Block (HCB) with 150 beds and a state-of-the-art Education, Training and Research Centre (ETRC) will be constructed. Together with the renovation of the existing Wah Wing Block of 50 beds (Phase 2) and the development of a Long Term Care (LTC) Wing and Geriatric Rehabilitation & Transitional Care Centre (GRTC) (Phase 3 and 4), the expanded SASHCC would have a much larger capacity to meet the cogent need of holistic and quality care to the ageing society of Hong Kong in the spirit of ‘Embrace the Last Journey with Love’. The first phase is on track for completion by 2026, with the facilities becoming operational in 2027.

The SAR Philharmonic Orchestra

The SAR Philharmonic Orchestra (www.sarpo.org) has a simple goal: Helping to lessen suffering through Sweet And Romantic music.  This is mostly carried out by presenting concerts for fund raising by other charitable organizations. The SAR Philharmonic Orchestra is the musical arm of the SAR Philharmonic Charitable Foundation Limited, a Hong Kong Government registered Charitable Foundation.  The orchestra performs several concerts a year and since the first concert in 1999 over $60 million have been raised for local charities.

Orchestra members are dedicated volunteers who give their services freely – thus maximizing the financial benefits for the recipient charity.  The orchestra boasts over 100 members and presents ambitious programs for full symphony orchestra.  Under the baton of our Music Director K. K. Chiu, we have performed some 150 concerts including the complete symphonic cycle of Gustav Mahler.  The SAR Philharmonic Orchestra enjoys a strong reputation in Hong Kong’s musical community and also cultivates a love of music among children.  The Classics for Kids concerts are extremely popular with parents and children alike, including very young children normally excluded from concert halls.  At the same time these concerts raise more money to help us support music scholarships and other worthy causes.  The SAR Philharmonic Orchestra has further expanded its outreach into the community by supporting music education in schools through collaborative concerts, where students play alongside our experienced players and receive mentorship during rehearsals.

In July 2023, our orchestra had our first very successful international ten day tour to Germany. Members travelled at their own expense to play in 3 concerts, partnering with two German community orchestras – Lufoniker BASF orchestra in Ludwigshafen and Auftakt Orchestra in Heidelberg, raising funds for local hospitals and music schools. The SAR Philharmonic Orchestra is going from strength to strength.  We hope you will help us in our mission to live up to our motto of helping to lessen suffering through Sweet And Romantic music.
